Great Rivers Greenway - Grant's Trail Bridge

Great Rivers Greenway needed their Grant's Trail bridge over Highway 44 in St. Louis sandblasted and coated without closing the interstate during daytime hours.  The former railroad bridge, now a popular pedestrian/bike bridge, was last painted in 1960.  Hartman Walsh performed several coating operations nightly, controlling traffic, erecting containment, sandblasting and priming surfaces and dismantling containments, all within a seven-hour period.  The innovative containment system was completely orchestrated from the deck above, using scaffolding that was specifically designed and engineered for this project.  After the sandblasting and priming operation was complete, we coated the surfaces with a siloxane-based urethane.  The bridge was finished with a stencil that welcomes visitors from the west into St. Louis and serves as a mural to Grant's Trail.
