Public Water Supply District #1 of Jefferson Co. - Arnold Water Tower
We performed containment, lead abatement and coating rehabilitation on this one-million-gallon Hydropillar tank exterior, plus removal and replacement of the interior lining system. We also designed and erected a Class 2-type containment system, equipped with negative pressure, which could be quickly raised and lowered. Surface preparation acheived a Near White Blast on both the interior and exterior surfaces.
To remove the lead in the existing exterior coating and minimize the waste generated, we used a steel grit blast-and-recovery system. We then installed high-performance epoxy and urethane coating systems to provide long-term protection.
Since the tank was located immediately adjacent to a day care center and in a high wind location, we developed a modified cable-stayed containment enclosure for lead containment. This unique system, never before used on a tank of this size, allowed quick up-and-down of the containment system during adverse winds and provided excellent containment. The results were exceptional.
